They began their journey with Ada when they were just 3 and 4 years old, and the transformation has been astounding. • Ada 老师 was very influential in my Chinese learning journey. I first became her student at the start of my sophomore year of high school, where I was taking weekly Chinese classes at Asia Pacific Language School. In my weekly classes, Ada 老师 taught me a lot about Chinese culture such as holidays, celebrations, as well as common idioms and the stories that inspired them. This helped me form a greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and motivated me to learn more. Another important thing that Ada 老师 did was show me modern Chinese films and music. This modern approach was intriguing because the cultural studies we had done before were about the past history of China. She also helped my writing skills by assigning me movies to watch, then summarizing them in an essay which helped me listen and watch Chinese media for understanding. 

• During classes we practiced casual conversation, talking about our daily lives and school, helping me develop listening skills and everyday vocabulary. With all of these skills I was learning, I felt ready to take the STAMP test in my sophomore year of high school to receive my language credits. Ada 老师 gave me the HSK vocabulary words I needed to know and helped me memorize them and utilize them correctly in conversation and writing. With her help I earned 3 out of 5 possible credits on the STAMP test, and my confidence in my Chinese proficiency grew.

• After the STAMP test, the next challenge was the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam. Just like with the STAMP test, Ada 老师 helped me study conversational and writing skills that would be tested on the exam. I scored a 4 out of 5 on the exam, giving me college credits that would help me in the future. Now, after just finishing my first year of college I appreciate how much Ada 老师 has done for me. Because of her I realized my passion for Chinese language and culture, and continue to study it in college. She has been an influential figure in my journey and I can’t thank her enough!
